Q:

3/8" or 11mm Dovetail Scope Rails?

I always assumed that the Talon/Condor dovetails were 11mm…

At least that is what I remember it being…

I ordered an 11mm B-Square spirit level from PAG and when tightened all the way would slide easily up and down the tri-rail…

A nice little plastic shim solved the movement issues but the whole thing left me wondering what is the size of the dovetail???

If it is indeed 3/8″ this would account for the level not clamping and would also account for the 11mm single piece scope rail being off center as well…

So I saw PAG’s blog on measuring the dovetail with 1mm wire in the groove, is this the standard or just something Gaylord made up… Why would american scope mount and rail manufacturers use a metric system to measure standard components…

What is the dovetail size on the Airforce Airguns? 😯

Hi! Here’s a couple of pics…

Fits like a glove…

It reads exacts 10mm (1cm).

Honestly, I take back what I said… I don’t think a weaver version would fit a 11mm rail with some shim… it would have to be A LOT of shim because weaver rail is way bigger than dovetail.

I do believe you have a level with a defective mount. A weaver mount on the tightest adjustment will be almost 2 times the size of a dovetail.
Can you send it back for replacement? If not, I guess you could Dremel it a little and it will fit nicely (well… that’s what I would do… I hate to send things for replecement).

No problem, actually your not thread jacking at all, the info I have says 11mm… Weaver will not work, too big, but definitely better than what comes with…

I think the most bipod mounting success is gained with mounting it to the fore grip or a swivel stud attachment…

I have the Airforce bipod which has a part that is not exactly what I like to see on something that gets used with any regularity, so I would recommend the Harris version…

Since I have yet to mount anything other than the AF bipod you would have to find the attachment post somewhere on this forum…

Good luck and you’ll be having a good time soon!!! 😀

not to jack the thread, but what size is the accessory rail on Airforce frames? I got the TSS being shipped in, and need a bipod. Will those designed for Picatinny/Weaver style rails fit my gun? Again, sorry to thread-jack.

I ordered the 11mm dovetail version, it looks like it may have another way to mount it but it is over 1/8″ larger than the one I am using…

I guess they sent the wrong one… 😆

Crimson maybe right JW, you may have the weaver mount? They do have two mounting points and it may depend on the model you have.

Hi!

Hehehe… If the level we’re talking about is the one that photo 22 posted, I got this level on my gun too! I bought it as B-Square bubble level.

I’ll post a picture and measures later, OK? I’m still at work…

Just one thing… are you sure you got the right one? This level is sold both on 11mm dovetail and weaver rail. I know the difference is very big, but…

Hmm, i’ll look again Pat… Didn’t notice anything like that, it looked like the little end part sat only one way… 😳

Crimson, those were the numbers I got as well. I checked before I ordered the parts but with everything so far off I wondered if it was just a simple mistake… 1.5mm or 0.098″ is quite a bit off when aligning a scope and really maddening when shooting at different distances. The mix and match metric and standard systems in rifles and ammo is nuts, not sure i’ll ever get used to it!

Thanks on the avatar, someone had it on another site and I had to use it… 😯 My favorite scenes are the Kin-Jung-Ill stuff.

This is the B-Square level. JW it should mount with both. If you look close and see that it has 2 ways to mount.

Hi!

What is this B-Square spirit level? Didn’t see it on Pyramyd’s website…

Well… 3/8″ is very close to 11mm (3/8″ = 0.9525cm ~ 9.5mm). Most dovetail mounts are designed to fit dovetails from 9mm to 14mm… are you sure this level is not defective? As far as I know (like you said), dovetails from AF guns are 11mm… just measured mine with a caliper and the flat surface is almost 12mm. From groove to groove, it’s about 10mm.

They machine mounts in metrical system because it’s an International Standart! 😛
Really… I guess it’s in metrical system because of the large amount of guns imported from Europe in the past. It just became a standart…

I use bouth the imperial and the metrical systems. By far, the metrical is much easier and makes a lot more sense.

By the way, nice avatar! Team America rocks!!!!!!!!
