Q:

.223 barrel

hi all,

Another couple of questions from the dutchman 8)
In holland it is perfectly legal to mod a rimfire barrel so that it fits an airgun… and since the condor is powerfull enough to shoot 30 or 40 grainers i’m looking into buying a blank .223 barrel, and machine it to fit my condor.

My questions;

Has anybody fit a rimfire barrel on his talon already, and if so, do you like it?

Would anybody be able to tell me which twistrate i have to get? 1:16 or 1:14, or other?

Can you legally purchase a .223 blank barrel without a liscense here in the states?
I found this website, it seems they sell their barrels for a reasonable price?

thanks in advance guys! 😀

Hi guys,

Well i tell you why i’m interested in the .223 rimfire barrels…

In holland we have the eley magnum solidpoint, in both .22 and .223

Tried the .22 eley in my standard LW barrel, and although the energy retention over longer ranges is just phenomenal, it lacks proper accuracy. got really interested in the solidpoint bullet though, and want to find a way to shoot these suckers in my condor with good accuracy. So that’s why i want to try the .223 barrel, and if these eley’s .223 don’t group too well, then i’ll just look for alternative ammo.

What do you guys think of this barrel?:

or the same with another twistrate

I just ordered a .25 (airgun) barrel from Lothar fortunately my buddy does the machining for free it is a choked 16mm OD 23.8″ blank with a 1 in 16.5 twist rate. It wil recieve a 11 degree target crown as well a new titanium 4 ring heavy breech as well.

A rimfire barrel has different grooves and lands as it makes use of expanding chemical gases as opposed to air unless you move into the big bore application like .308 or higher then it does not matter.

But unless you can do the machining it is not worth it as the blanks go for around 90.00 each add a couple hours to do the machining and make spacers and you will be in the 200.00s

I just wanted to try it myself (actually my buddy).

These folkes supply LW Barrel Blanks in all calibres although not listed, friends of mine have recently purchased .45 acp & 9mm from this company without any problems at all. No permits are required as long as a blank is not chambered for its desired round. Best to choose the overall O/D and length you require and twist rate from off the LW site first.

Vincent,

For 30 grain I would go with 1-14 to 1-16. But with faster twistrates you can use longer bullets. And they tend to shoot shorter projectiles with relative good accuracy. It’s all a thing of trial and error.

Marc

Yep they have,

Lets see if Cygnus will chime in and fill you in on some details. He has done all that kind of stuff.
He is a little bit of a power maniac. 😛

allright, that’s good news, thanks for the input shadoh 🙂

these questions remain;

Has anybody fit a rimfire barrel on his talon already, and if so, do you like it?

Would anybody be able to tell me which twistrate i have to get? 1:16 or 1:14, or other?

I found this website, it seems they sell their barrels for a reasonable price? in other words; what’s a normal price for a blank rimfire barrel here?

cheers, vincent

The barrel isnt illegal to own here in the states. You could own a thousand different calibers and never need to register them. AT LEAST IN AZ. ) Other states may have something crazy going on. Its the breech that is really considered the firearm and what has the serial number stamped on it.

You can own say a TC Contender and buy as many barrels in as many different calibers as you can think of.
