If anyone is interested here are a few shot strings at 68 degrees using the Talon SS powered by co2 adaptor. The barrel length is 12รขโ‚ฌ

Simple answer is that CO2 pressure increases with temp. Can expect about a 1.6 to 2 fps gain with each degree (F) in temperature change from about 50degrees to 90degrees (colder or hotter than that, and things get more complicated). So if your rifle is shooting 580fps in 60degree weather, would be shooting close to 625 -640fps at 90degrees.

With a short barrel, there comes a point were no matter how much harder you whack the valve, it just won’t go faster. Will sound louder as it will release more co2, but the extra gas is just making noise.

In the world of co2, looking at FACTORY STOCK guns, there currently isn’t anything faster than the Condor (or a 24″ barrel on a CO2 Talon for that matter).

I was thinking that it was the same pressure and fps from 50 degrees up no matter how hot it got..I knew below 50 it started dropping..so actually it will start dropping anytime the temp drops??..and 50 degrees must be the magic number for any quality fps…thanks!!

What a difference – approx. 750 fps on power setting 5. CO2 will be fun in the summer. ๐Ÿ˜€

I dont understand this…I was under the impression that 620 was about all you could get with co2.. I’m not sure where I need my power wheel set at, I’ve got it cranked all the way up and this one is on 5?? I guess I dont fully understand the inner workings here. thanks!

at 40deg, CO2 pressure in the bottle will be just 600psi.

at 90deg, summertime the same bottle of CO2 will have an air pressure of almost 1100psi.

This is why you must check your zero wenever there is a big change in temperature you will be shooting in.

Surprising velocities are possible in the summer. I have a qb78 in .22cal that does nearly 800fps on a warm summer day.

I dunno either, except that I know I can whack-a-critter at about 40 yards or so with CPs. Talon SS with a 24″ inch barrel.

I’m running CO2 with the PW jacked to the max.

But I can tell that’s my extreme “outside” range… anything further and I’m just being a Jihadi trying to live up to my Fatwa. ๐Ÿ˜†

The rest of it is righteous science that I’m unfortunately not in a position to research right now, given Michigan winter.

FPS? FPE? Not a clue…. the gun is super accurate and lays down some heat wherever you point it. Good enough for me.

But we shall see when the weather breaks…. we all know the damnedest thing about this gun is how much you can tweak it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I just stocked up on the crosman pointed so I will wait until I see the next 10% coupon code then take your advice and order.

Thanks.

Pretty sure there’s an existing 10% coupon code that’s valid ’til May, though I could be wrong. Check the Yellow Forum.

Thanks Buzzcat, or just check my signature line ๐Ÿ™‚

33 tins!? No wonder the Kodiaks are always on backorder at Pyramid. ๐Ÿ™‚
That is a good idea though.

If you’ve a lot of airguns to feed or don’t mind having a lot of pellets on hand, the best deal is still pyramid….but if you order enough to qualify for free shipping (what is it, like $150) can really save. Shipping on pellets is the real killer…getting the 4th tin “free” and free shipping is the best way to get pellets cheap.

Know any other airgunners?,,,no reason not to make a group order to get that free shipping.

Co2 is never going to be fast from a 12″ barrel. As far as co2 guns go, the Talon SS is faster than anything else with such a short barrel, but it’s just not in the cards for co2 (at that temperature) to be super quick. Will be super consistent so long as you pace the shooting to keep temperature stable. Can shoot 10 shots strings with less than 5 fps variation.

With co2, the longer barrels definately pay off in power….just the nature of co2 to really appreciate the longer launch pad/heat sink that more barrel lenght and mass gives.

Hey Greg,

I’m sorry to hear that CO2 sucks for you too.

It’s not too bad for just simple plinking or punching paper, but I really get frustrated when you try and hunt on CO2. Just because of the swings in the trajectory with the change in temperature. Your numbers seem lower than mine, I don’t know why.

Once I moved over to high-pressure air, I rarely go back to shooting on CO2. I keep my CO2 adapter and a 9 ounce bottle to be used as a spare for go hunting.

I’m so hooked on the high-pressure air, I seem to have collected two 44 cubic foot tanks. one 66 cubic foot tank, and 2 17.9 cubic foot pony tanks.

So it doesn’t look like a be going back to CO2 anytime soon. :-).

Roger

PS one time when I took my SS to the duck club. I The tank covered with a wool sock, and inside the sock. I used to hand warmers. This seemed to help.

I too am shooting CO2 at about 68 degrees with a stock talon SS and although I do not have a chrony I am using impact points and zeroed at 30 yds. with ChairGun shooting .22 BenjaminDiscovery pellets (14.3 gr).

It appears as though I am only getting 420 fps. Much lower than your numbers at 68 degrees.

Greg

Thank you for posting you results with CO2. I was thinking that it might be a good option but after shooting at 800 + fps, I’m addicted to the power. I also found the machining on the AF CO2 adapter coarse. The female thread had a nasty burr. I sent that back to Pyramid.

I buy most of my pellets from PyramidAir. They have been great to deal with. I have been doing business with them for about a year now. I have had several problems or disapointments, but Pyramid has taken care of all of them brilliantly. The buy three and get one free deal on pellets is great. They also have a great selection.

I have all but given up on buying from a store. My local Walmart stocks the Crosman Premier domed hollow point in .177, but not in .22. For some reason, they only stock a .22 caliber flat nose wadcutter pellet.

Thanks again for the CO2 data.

I buy pellets from Pyramid Air. If you buy 3 you get 1 free. I bought like 33 tins of Kodiaks got that deal and due to it being over $150 I got free shipping too. I think I came out paying like 3.95/tin for kodiaks.

I just ordered 4 boxes of CP’s and at $15/box and one is free I get them for $11.25/box that comes out to like .02cents a shot.

I just added the 4 boxes to my cart and it is $43.95 for 2,500 with $10.59 shipping = $54.54 that is only $0.021816 each. I just stocked up on the crosman pointed so I will wait until I see the next 10% coupon code then take your advice and order.

Thanks.
